Lynx Day of Service
CU Denver is giving back to the Denver community and offering volunteer opportunities!
Sep 6, 2024After a short hiatus, we are excited to welcome back the Lynx Day of Service event at CU Denver! Lynx Day of Service is meant to provide time for all students, staff, and faculty to give back to the larger Denver community. This year, Lynx Day of Service is partnering with a group called Project Helping, where students, staff, and faculty can come together and make Kynd Kits for three major areas: Dignity Bags for the Unhoused, Toys for Shelter Animals, and Sight Words for First Graders. Students who volunteer will also be able to receive a free lunch as part of the day!
This event runs from 9:00am-3:00pm on September 27th and will occur primarily in the Tivoli Turnhalle, located in the Tivoli Student Union. A remote option will also be posted on the RSVP sign up link for online students to sign up for if they are unable to attend in-person but would still like to volunteer.
In addition, this year we are excited to host a Volunteer Fair during the lunch hour to allow students to find long-term volunteering opportunities to engage in after our Lynx Day of Service that will allow them to continue serving the Denver community and beyond. We know how impactful it can be to serve your larger university community, and the Volunteer Fair is meant to be that connection point for students seeking that opportunity.
In the Student Transitions and Family Engagement Office, we are also extra-excited about the event this year, because it falls the day before our annual CU Denver Parent and Family Weekend, which takes place September 28th. Any parent or family member who is planning on attending CU Denver Parent and Family Weekend is also encouraged to consider volunteering alongside their student at Lynx Day of Service as well. If students need help with registering a family member to volunteer alongside them, they can email the volunteering team at volunteer@ucdenver.edu.
Giving back is a big component of civic engagement, and at CU Denver we hope that spending time on Lynx Day of Service giving back to the Denver community helps our students feel more connected to their campus community and the greater city of Denver. The Student Transitions and Family Engagement team will all be present on Lynx Day of Service, and we can’t wait to see our fellow staff, faculty, and our students there too!
