2024 Off to a Great Start for Lynx Studying Abroad!
Learn about the Global Studies programs CU Denver students participated in during the Winterim.
Feb 2, 2024The Spring 2024 semester got off to an early start for the 160 CU Denver students participating in faculty-led Global Studies programs this Winterim. On December 27, 2023, the first group of students arrived in Florence, Italy for the popular Drawing in Italy program led by Melissa Furness. More members of the Lynx community headed to Cuba, Kenya, Spain, and Taiwan in early January to start the new year by challenging themselves to learn and grow in a completely new environment.
Here’s a glimpse of what your fellow Lynx experienced overseas:
- Dave Ruderman’s Cuba Libre students are focused on the vibrant Cuban culture and the critical role of entrepreneurship in today’s emerging Cuban economy.
- Students in EJ Yoder’s Food Fight learned how food is used to create regional and national cultural identities in Spain.
- Students participating in Tim Lei’s engineering course explored the international dimensions of technology and culture in Taiwan and Japan.
- Kenya provided an excellent environment for learners interested in business and public health to discover how interventions in public health, poverty alleviation, and empowerment can positively impact a relatively poor nation with limited infrastructure. Participants also saw wildlife conservation in action with a safari to the Massai Mara game park.
Study abroad is within your reach! Most CU Denver students use financial aid, including the many scholarships exclusively available for study abroad, to help pay for these transformative experiences. Check out your options here! Many students who apply receive awards.
The Office of Global Education is proud that two of our students participating in Winterim programs were awarded the competitive and prestigious Gilman award which offers up to $5,000 towards a study abroad program. Most undergraduate students receiving Pell grants are eligible to apply for this scholarship. You can find details here. Mark your calendars for the next Gilman application deadline on March 7, 2024.
