Access Control

The CU Denver Access Control and AHEC Access Control groups work collaboratively to manage access control on the Downtown Campus.

Electronic Access

STEP 1: Getting an ID Badge

The first step in gaining access to buildings and rooms is to acquire an ID. Please display your ID when you are on campus. Below is a list of badge types that are available, the user group they are intended for, and instructions on how to obtain that badge type.

STEP 2: Having Your Badge Encoded With Access Permissions

Once you have an ID, the ID needs to be encoded before you can access any building or rooms. There are multiple encoding options, and they differ based on the building(s) you need access to.

NOTE: If you are a student, faculty member or staff member with a badge that was issued prior to the Census date for the current semester (see academic calendar), your card should automatically be encoded with the access permissions to buildings, elevators and stairwells as described in the campus building hours. If you fall into this category and your badge is still not working, use the chart below to determine which access control office to contact. Depending on the buildings you need access to, you may need to contact multiple offices. If you are issued a badge after the census date (new or replacement), you will need to contact the appropriate access control office(s) to have your card encoded.

If you need program- specific access (i.e. to a suite or room versus an exterior door), that request should be submitted to the applicable access control office through your unit administrator.

If you need additional access permissions, are having issues accessing buildings, or need access permissions to one of the residence halls, please consult the chart below for the appropriate contact information and procedure.

Lost Badge/Keys

Should your ID Badge of key(s) be lost or stolen, promptly notify the CU Denver Access Control office at 303-315-7777 or DowntownAccess@ucdenver.edu to ensure the badge is deactivated and re-keying is carried out if needed. If the lost keys are for AHEC buildings, CU Denver Access control will notify AHEC Access Control.

Notice of Termination or Separation

The departmental hiring authority is responsible for notifying CU Denver Access Control at 303-315-7777 or DowntownAccess@ucdenver.edu if an employee is terminated or voluntarily separates from the University. This allows CU Denver Access Control to delete the access permissions associated with the badge. It is not necessary to return the badge.  The hiring authority is also responsible for collecting any keys from the employee and returning them to CU Denver Access Control at the Lawrence Street Center (1380 Lawrence Street, suite 360.) Departments may be charged for non-returned keys.
