IMPORTANT: All clubs must start off in Student Life before they can apply for entry into Club Sports. If you are interested in starting a club on campus, you can find more information on the Student Organizations website.

Entry into the Club Sports Program

Wellness & Recreation Services recognizes that other sport-related clubs might wish to seek recognition in the Club Sports program. Due to limited resources available to Club Sports, adding new clubs is not always feasible. The Club Sports program has implemented a club application process for registered student organizations that opens up every other year. RSO's must meet and maintain specific requirements in order to be eligible to apply for Club Sports status. Entry into the program is NOT guaranteed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • The club has existed in the Office of Student Life for at least one semester under the approved status of Registered Student Organization
  • The club sport exists in Colorado or nationally
  • A minimum of 7 members and a minimum of 51% of members must be registered CU Denver Downtown campus students
  • Risk management must have vetted the sport to determine level of liability
  • There must be a spot available on the Club Sports roster

Applications will open February 2023 for activation in the 2023-2024 school year. Applications can be found on this page when the process opens up.

Part of the application process includes a presentation to Club Sports staff, outlining your club's qualifications and addressing a number of topics and questions posed by the Club Sports office. The guidelines and topics to cover for the presentation will be attached to the application. You can also reach out to the Coordinator of Student Organizations, who has a copy of these guidelines, if your RSO is interested in pursuing Club Sport status in the future.
