The Internship Workshop is the first step in the internship process. Students only need to complete the Internship Workshop one time. The workshop will introduce students to the internship process, intern rights and responsibilities, and how to use Handshake. Attending the Internship Workshop will give students access to apply for internships through Handshake and schedule an appointment with their Internship Advisor.

Required on-site internship hours vary by college and by how many credits the student registers for. Minimum requirements are 45-50 on-site hours for each registered credit hour. However, many students work more hours than the minimum.

In addition, the minimum number of weeks needed for an academic/for-credit internship are:

• Fall and Spring Semesters – 10 week minimum
• Summer Semester – 6 week minimum 

The official deadline for students to enroll in the internship course each semester is Census Date. Some academic programs will allow students to enroll after Census Date. 

Yes. Students will pay the normal tuition and fees associated with the number of credits they register for.

Once students receive and accept an offer for an internship, they need to Solidify their internship! Their next steps are to report their internship on Handshake (“Submit an Experience”) and then schedule an appointment with their Internship Advisor to go over everything prior to starting the approval process. Once the internship is fully approved, their Internship Advisor will email them the information they need to enroll in the internship course for their major.
