When a student or alum misses or cancels late for two consecutive appointments, or three appointments overall, their access to full-time professional staff will be suspended until they meet with a peer advisor to discuss appointment goals, preparation, and time management. Late cancellations are defined as appointments not canceled within three full business days of the scheduled date and time. Please be sure to schedule appointments at times you are able to keep so we do not have to restrict or suspend your access to LynxConnect.

 

• Appointments are approximately 50 minutes.
• Our counselors are student fee funded, so there is no charge for students or alumni.
• There may be a small fee associated with certain assessments.
  
• We expect you to be actively involved in this process as this is your journey; please come prepared to talk with your career counselor and be open to questions, feedback, and suggestions.
• Your career counselor may distribute handouts for supplemental guidance and provide tools and resources for you to use outside of your appointment.
• Your career counselor may determine and will likely suggest other places on campus or in the community that may be helpful for you to access.
• Your career counselor may suggest follow-up appointments if needed.
• There is no official limit to sessions with a career counselor; however, only assistance on career related goals is provided. If your career counselor determines that our services no longer meet your needs, you will be referred to additional services and resources on campus and/or in the community.

What your career counseling appointment is not:

• The career counselor will not tell you what job/major is best for you; they will give you more information and resources to help you decide on your own.
• The career counselor is not able to advise you on your course selections or a four-year course plan.
• The career counselor will not write or edit your career/education-related documents for you (e.g. resumes, cover letters, letters of intent); they will provide a review of your materials as well as tools and resources for you to complete these documents on your own.
• The career counselor will not find you a job or internship; they will provide you with job and internship searching techniques and resources.

Student Expectations:

Provide Accurate Information: Job search materials should be truthful and accurate.

Act with Integrity

• Honor Commitments: Keep all scheduled career counseling appointments and scheduled interviews.
• Genuine Interest: Schedule interviews only with employers you have a genuine interest in working with.
• Professional Conduct: Accept an offer of employment in good faith and notify employers of acceptance or non-acceptance of the offer. After accepting a position, withdraw your candidacy from all other interviews.

Confidentiality:

CU Denver Career Center adheres to the regulations of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. (FERPA)

All information discussed during an appointment that is protected from disclosure by FERPA is confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of the Career Center unless one or more of the following occurs:

1. You give consent for us to do so,
2. One or more exceptions to the consent requirement of FERPA exists,
3. There is an articulable and significant threat to the health or safety of you or other individuals, or

• There is a University of Colorado related Title IX issue.
• Career Counselors within the Career Center may talk to one another to provide you the best services possible. This communication is in the provision of services and is within FERPA guidelines.
• Any documents you post in our online system, Handshake, are available for employer access.

Provide access to comprehensive services, programs, resources, career opportunities, and a variety of employers.
