Why recruit at CU Denver?

The University of Colorado Denver is one of the nation's top public urban research universities. Through our partnerships with business and industry, public schools and local governments, and other community outreach programs, we strive to help you find the right employees.

Our students can offer employers not only an excellent foundation of knowledge, understanding, and insight gained from CU Denver’s outstanding academic programs, but also bring a wide range of skills, abilities, and values to enhance and contribute to their careers as well as lifelong professional development.

Employers can utilize a variety of Career Center services to meet their hiring needs.

Employer services

Here is what you need to know:

Join us for virtual office hours where student can pop in with questions about your company or general professional development inquiries. This process can be as formal or informal as you prefer.

Best suited for: Employers looking to fill part-time, full-time, and internship positions from a variety of majors and class standings.

Fee: $50 per session

Held once each semester (fall & spring), the Internship & Job Fair gives employers the opportunity to meet with students from all majors and class levels who are seeking internship, part-time, or full-time positions. Please note that all fall events will be virtual.

Best suited for: Employers looking to fill a variety of opportunities including part-time, full-time, temporary and permanent positions, as well as traditional internships and micro-internships.

Fee: varies depending on company classification

Ask us about targeted (major or school-specific) career events too!

Sessions are generally 30-60 minutes long, employers can present to a targeted student population on any professional development topic of interest to the employer (e.g., workplace etiquette, interviewing skills, etc.) or give a general company overview that includes career opportunities and criteria for employment at the company/organization. Please note that all events for fall will be virtual.

Best suited for: Employers seeking students from targeted majors for positions requiring degrees

Fee: $50

We will work with you to create an event that meets your needs and targets the students you are seeking. May include formats such as workshops, presentations, panels, networking, and more.

Employer policies

NACE principles for employment professionals

CU Denver expects that all employers will abide by the recruiting policies as set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). We strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with these policies by visiting the NACE website.

Qualification criteria for employers

The following policies are established to determine the eligibility of a company, organization, or individual to utilize any employer services at CU Denver, in accordance with the NACE Principles for Professional Practice:

Must have current or anticipated job openings for college graduates or alumni, if posting Full-Time, Part-Time (Student Hourly), or Contract/Project Based positions.Must have current or anticipated job openings for currently enrolled college students (undergraduate, graduate, & professional level), if posting On-Campus (Student Hourly) or Work Study positions.

Must not impose fees upon the student/alumnus in order to become an employee of the organization. This DOES NOT including professional licensure fees that may need to be covered by the employee (e.g., insurance licensing fees to sell insurance, etc.).

Must comply with all federal, state, and local Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action laws and regulations regarding age, race/ethnicity, disabilities, religion, gender, etc.

Must be registered, and in "Good Standing", with the Secretary of State's database for the state listed on the account

We DO NOT offer the following services to any employers:

Paper job postings and physical job board. All postings will be directed to Handshake, our online job board.
Email blasts to students, faculty, or staff about a specific job opening.

Definition: Third-party agencies include organizations that recruit candidates for full-time, part-time, or temporary employment for another company/client and typically charge a fee to a job applicant or the company/client (e.g., employment/staffing agencies, search firms, contract recruiters, etc.).

Third-party agencies may participate in career fairs and post jobs on the online job board only when they meet the following requirements:

Must disclose information on the position(s) and the name of the company/client that s/he represents clearly and upfront via email to the Career Center staff. (Note: The Career Center respects the issue of confidentiality and will not publish the client name in any manner.)
Must acknowledge that the Career Center may choose to verify the third party recruiter relationship with the employer/client.

Must NOT use résumés attained from Handshake job postings for referral to any other job or employer.

May be asked to provide information concerning CU Denver candidates employed through the agency (including, but not limited to, the candidate’s name, employer, and salary).

Home-based businesses are not eligible to participate in CU Denver’s employer services.

Teaching English abroad agencies are currently not eligible to participate in CU Denver’s employer services.

Marijuana/cannabis industries: The University of Colorado Denver Career Center will not accept positions related to the use or distribution of recreational or medical marijuana. As the use of marijuana is illegal at the federal level and CU Denver receives federal funds, we must comply with federal law. In addition, the use of marijuana violates the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act and continues to be banned on campus.

Multi-Level or network marketing organizations and franchise/business opportunities are not eligible to participate in any employer services. Such organizations are those that engage in one or more of the following practices:

Sponsors an individual in setting up his/her own business for the purpose of selling products or services and/or recruiting other individuals to set up their own business (Direct Sales Organizations).

Requires an initial investment from individuals with the organization itself serving as an umbrella or parent corporation. The initial investment may be, but is not limited to, direct payment of a fixed fee, payment to attend an orientation or training session, and/or purchase of a starter kit.

Compensates in the form of straight commission, fees from others under their sponsorship in the organization, and/or a percentage of sales generated by others, but not limited to, the candidate’s name, employer, and salary).

We DO NOT offer the following services to any employers:

Paper job postings and physical job board. All postings will be directed to Handshake, our online job board.

Email blasts to students, faculty, or staff about a specific job opening.

Employers involved in hemp production and research may be eligible to utilize CU Denver Career Center employer services if they can provide the following:

Evidence that they are registered with the State of Colorado Department of Agriculture;
Information regarding the THC levels of the products they are selling; AND
Attestation that they do not receive money from or have ties to the Marijuana Industry as defined under CO law.

Counsel will be sought from CU Denver's legal department as needed to ensure compliance with University policy as well as state and federal law.

Positions related to the use or distribution of recreational marijuana are still not acceptable.

The University of Colorado Denver Career Center and Experiential Learning Center reserve the right to evaluate all employers and refuse services/recruiting privileges at any time to organizations or individuals who are in violation of our policies or for other factors such as:

Failure to comply with Career Center or Employer Policies;
Requiring students’ personal information at the time of application, such as bank account or social security numbers;
Misrepresentation (including dishonesty or incomplete/withholding of information) and/or fraud;
Harassment of CU Denver students, alumni, faculty, or staff;
Violation of FERPA (see for more information below);
Any violation of University of Colorado Denver rules, regulations, or policies;
Any violation of local, state, or federal laws.
