Sitefinity Release Notes: January 31, 2024
This article highlights recent enhancements made to Sitefinity functionality for the January 31, 2024 release.
Tarah Dykeman Jan 31, 2024Greetings Web Community!
We are pleased to share the following updates for our first Sitefinity release of 2024:
Enhancements to Current Functionality
- Contact Us Button: There is a new property in Title & Properties called ‘Contact Us URL’ that when filled out, a button will appear in the footer between the address and social media icons.
- Font Awesome 6 SVG: The icon library Font Awesome has been updated to version 6 and to use SVG instead of WebFont. This should decrease load times for pages along with bringing in a host of new icons.
- For any icons you have added to content blocks, please update them to the new HTML or SVG versions at your convenience. If you are using a Twitter icon in any content blocks, please also update this to an X icon. Check out this AtWeb page for instructions on updating icons.
- New Full Width Container: A new full width container (called SecondFullWidthContainer) has been added below the breadcrumb container.
- OIT Tools & Services: the cost field can now be hidden and the link to “see full details” has been moved to a more user-friendly location.
- RSS Feed Reader: the option to show placeholder images has been added for templates that show images. When this option is selected in the widget, the placeholder image will show if no images are presented from the RSS feed.
- Social Media Content Type Updates: Vimeo, TikTok, and Threads have been added into the social media content type. Also, the Twitter icon has been updated to use the new ‘X’ icon instead.
Accessibility Improvements
- Content block, Enhanced Card, Featured Tabs, Tabs, News, Tools & Services: Added additional styling to catch uses of paragraphs needing link underlines which were being flagged in Siteimprove.
- Content Block CTA: Duplicated CTA’s should now receive a unique ID. This will address the issue of duplicate ID’s being flagged in Siteimprove. We will look at addressing duplicate ID’s being flagged on all elements in an upcoming release.
- CTA: Styling of “Primary Call to Action Theme” was corrected to address an issue of dark text on a dark background which was unreadable. This theme now correctly has white text on a dark background.
- Featured Tabs: Updated styling of featured tabs so that the outline is a darker color, helping to better distinguish one tab from the next.
- Main Element: A main element role has been added around the t-CUMainContainer to recognize that content placed here should act as the main content of the page.
- Web Bio Accordion: Accordion code was changed so that the accordion is now a button. Corrected the toggling of aria-hidden and aria-expanded when this toggle button is activated. Previously, aria attributes were not toggling which was causing content under the accordions to be hidden from assistive technologies.
Noteworthy Bug Fixes
- Backend Icon: The icon in the backend of Sitefinity (known as the favicon) has been updated to the CU icon instead of the Sitefinity icon.
- Content Block: Pasting of images into content block has been disabled. Images should be added using the “insert image” tool of the kendo editor.
- Content Block CTA External Link Icon: A bug has been fixed that prevented the external link icon from showing at times.
- Pages Tab Details: For the pages tab in Sitefinity, the “Created On/Owner” column has been updated to show “Last Modified By” details. This information will be more helpful for identifying site editors.
Lastly, we wanted to make you aware of an upcoming change planned for February 21. Documents that are shown on pages will be indexed as search results. This means that when site visitors enter search queries on your site, documents that have been published and added to pages may be shown as search results.
