PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON A NEW HOME CARE ASSISTIVE DEVICE

WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • CAREGIVERS
  • PEOPLE WITH MOBILITY IMPAIRMENT

Timeframe: March-April 2020

Contact: Greg McGrew, MEBE email: greg.mcgrew@ucdenver.edu Phone: 303-315-1289

The Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering (CIDE) at University of Colorado Denver has been asked to gather input from potential users on an in-home lift device for transferring people with mobility impairments.  We will be conducting a focus group for this purpose, and are interested in two types of participants for the group.

Specifically, we are looking for 5 or 6 adults that use wheelchairs, and who are dependent on others for their transfers – essentially, anyone who might be transferred with a lift.  This would include most power wheelchair users.  Disability-related diagnoses would include SCI (quadriplegia), ALS, CP, or other.

We are also looking for 5 or 6 personal or institutional (e.g., nursing home) caregivers that would be involved in transferring individuals in their care from bed to chair or vice versa.

In both cases, we are looking for individuals with good communications skills.

Focus group participants will be introduced to the device through a demonstration of its operation and features, and then guided through a series of questions and discussions, giving their thought and impressions of the device.

The focus group will be held at CIDE offices on the CU Denver Auraria Campus, 1224 5th Street in Denver. Each participant will receive a $50 VISA gift card for his or her trouble.  The focus group will last between 1 ½ to 2 hours.

I hope to convene this group some time during the first week in March.  The focus group will need to be held on a weeknight in the evening (after 5), or anytime on Saturday or Sunday (3/7 or 3/8).  I am open to dates and times most convenient for participants.

Anyone interested who thinks they are appropriate to participate can contact me by phone or email.
