Yolanda Ortega spent more than 35 years as an administrator in higher education, retiring from Metropolitan State University of Denver as the Vice President of Student Affairs. Shortly after retirement, she started a singing catering business that was successful for over 10 years. Having been a cultural worker, mentor, and community activist, Yolanda has remained active in the community. She’s currently a special events volunteer with Tepeyac Community Health Center and serves on the Board of Directors for Firefly Autism. She’s also a co-host on the weekly KUVO Jazz radio show Canción Mexicana and an actress with Su Teatro theatre company, where she has performed for 50 years. She previously served as the Governor’s appointee to the Auraria Higher Education Center Board of Directors, Escuela Tlatelolco and Denver Mayor’s Commission on Cultural Affairs and the Denver Latino Commission.
