  • Microsoft Teams Calling Project

    The campus is transitioning from the current phone system (Cisco) to Microsoft Teams Calling. The cloud-based Microsoft Teams Calling will streamline communication for you, allowing you to make and receive calls directly within the Teams app from your computer, a mobile device, or a physical phone handset. This means you can stay connected and take important calls whether you're at your desk, hybrid or on the go.  OIT is excited to implement this change to meet the new business goals and needs of our evolving campus. Microsoft Teams Calling offers multiple communication modalities while passing on lower operating costs to the end user. Our team will be working with each department to discover your unique needs prior to any migration. We have split 180 departments and units into several groups, starting with a volunteer pilot group for rigorous testing prior to transitioning other departments or units. This phased approach allows OIT to work directly with each group and learn about each department and unit’s needs to ensure you are getting the best service.

  • New Integrated Microsoft 365 Directory

    As part of ongoing efforts to improve and strengthen the university’s security posture by proactively addressing out of date technologies, the campus directory website was sunsetted on Thursday, April 10, 2025. For a new directory tool, our IdM modernization and improvement project has updated individual name search functionality within the university's Microsoft 365 suite. This offers a better user experience, more reliable data, and more appropriately meets IT security and compliance Standards. It is immediately available for directory use to university faculty, staff, students and researchers.

  • North Classroom Data Center Testing

    OIT, in collaboration with the IT Leaders of our schools and colleges, will be simulating a data center outage to test, verify and remediate our planned failover capabilities. Planned failover testing of the North Classroom Data Center is on Sunday, July 30th. This is an estimated 8-hour testing window from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm to evaluate system backup processes and remediate any issues that present. To test these processes, we will be simulating a network outage, but no power or devices will actually be turned off.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and information technology departments across all CU campuses are partnering together to bring information to help university staff, students, and faculty protect CU’s confidential information. With the rise in virtual learning and remote work over the last two years, cybersecurity has become a hot topic for everyone both inside and outside of information technology departments.

Many people wonder what they can do to reduce the risk of an incident and protect confidential information while working and learning in the new virtual climate. There are precautions every individual can take to protect the information that they access for the university, as well as their own personal information. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is educating all campuses on these methods, resources, and strategies.

Over the course of October, OIT will lead virtual webinars, games, and publish tips to share best practices for everyone to adopt to reduce the risk of a cybersecurity incident. Topics will include understanding and identifying phishing attempts, password protection, multi-factor authentication (MFA), knowing the classification and sensitivity of the CU data you manage and how to keep it safe, and more. Webinars will be recorded and made available online if you are unable to attend live.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month will kick off on October 3rd with a letter from President Saliman and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) David Capps emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity. On October 6th, at 12:00 PM MT, CU Anschutz OIT will host the first webinar with esteemed panelists David Capps (CISO); Charlotte Russell (AVC of Security and Compliance Anschutz/Denver); Sarah Braun (Boulder ISO); Brad Judy (Sys Admin ISO); Sean Clark (Anschutz/Denver ISO); and Neil Kautzner (UCCS ISO). This webinar is a virtual Round Table Discussion and everyone, across all campuses, is welcome to attend and ask CU’s information security officers (ISO) their questions regarding the top cyber threats, ways the university is mitigating these threats, and how each individual can make an impact toward developing a more secure campus.
