Volodymr Kondratenko held a role as a teaching assistant in the University of Colorado Denver Department of Mathematics in 2008, supported by a National Science Foundation grant. His focus was on the stabilization of tiled LU algorithms. Through the university's Center for Computational Mathematics, Volodymr was involved in a team-building effort to develop WRF-Fire, a wildland fire simulator based on the Weather Research Forecasting Model (WRF), and the related data assimilation.
The WRF-Fire work was part of the NSF CDI Wildland fire modeling E-community project. The main goal of this project was to bring together multiple wildland fire models and data assimilation with web-based controls and visualization. Volodymyr was instrumental in improving memory handing in the computation of the remaining fuel.
