International Students Join Celebrations at CU Denver Spring Fling
With “Diversity” strongly supported as a core value at the University of Colorado Denver, it’s no surprise that international students are quickly welcomed into an exciting array of events and programs specially designed to integrate internationals into life in the United States. Two of the most popular annual events, Spring Fling and Fall Fest, are a collaboration between student organizations, school departments and nonprofit and for-profit vendors; hosted by CU Denver, Metropolitan State University, and Community College of Denver.
During this year’s Spring Fling, dozens of international students enjoyed exploring CU Denver’s downtown urban campus with their new international and American friends, stopping to listen to music from live bands, and sampling delicious foods at various booths.
“Spring Fling is a great event,” said Yu Song, who is earning a bachelor’s degree in economics. “I really enjoy the event atmosphere as well as the sunny weather of Colorado. This made me feel excited about my upcoming time at CU Denver.”
Udaya Sree Mutyala, a graduate student in Business Analytics, commented, “I didn’t know much about CU Denver before coming here. I just made a search on degree programs and course structure to make a decision. When I came and studied here, I was happy with CU Denver. I love the weather, and people are friendly and hospitable.”
“Spring Fling is a chance to meet people, make new friends and catch up with school activities. This Spring Fling 2017 is so awesome,” said Ernest Ulom, a graduate student in mechanical engineering. “I had opportunities to learn more about CU Denver, about student life in the U.S., and meet new people from around the world.”
CU Denver has plenty of ways for students to get involved in academic, cultural, and social activities; there are more than 100 student organizations on campus. Known as one of America’s “most livable cities”, Denver celebrates cultural events throughout the year, including the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival and the Biennial of the Americas.
“At CU Denver, I have always felt welcomed,” explained Aafrin Dabhoiwala, a graduate student in information systems. “I think it will continue to be a good university to be in.”
Mutyala concluded, “There are so many new campus activities that I can discover with my friends. These events make me feel that I am a part of the university. I will never regret my choice to study at CU Denver”.
