CU Denver | CU Anschutz Create Transformative Opportunities for International Students
Despite the disruptions and travel restrictions caused by the global pandemic, hundreds of international students and scholars continue to choose the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus as their destination for work, research, and studies. The university’s reputation as a leading innovative research institution, its top academic programs, and the dynamic urban environment continue to draw interest from students and scholars in diverse global regions. The university and the city’s welcoming atmosphere also make a difference.
In the Fall 2021 semester, 1,434 international students enrolled across all programs at CU Denver. They came from an alphabet of 69 countries ranging from Argentina to China to Japan to Qatar to Zimbabwe. Combined with CU Anschutz enrollment, the total number rose to 1,597. As enrollments from students in some countries such as Saudi Arabia have decreased, enrollments from other countries such as Kuwait and Nigeria have increased.
Why are students from so many diverse global regions choosing the University of Colorado Denver?
Alana Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor, Office of International Affairs, credits many factors: strong academic programs, staff and faculty who are dedicated to student success, and the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“We in the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and our colleagues in Strategic Enrollment and Student Success are thrilled to welcome back so many international students to campus,” said Jones. “We’ve listened closely to international students when they tell us about their educational goals, concerns, and career aspirations. Through thoughtful planning and care, the university is providing a welcoming, safe place for international students to pursue their dreams as the world continues to emerge from this global pandemic.”
For every student, the end of the journey and the start of a new adventure is marked by commencement. The satisfaction of a job well done, celebrations with classmates and friends, and the formal walk across the stage to receive a diploma form an exciting time in every student’s life. More than 130 international students have applied for graduation in December 2021. They have excelled in program subject areas that include architecture, business, engineering, pharmacy, and public health.
“Applications are up and 2022 is shaping up to be a good year for our international students,” said Jones. “We’re looking forward to giving them ongoing support and a second ‘home away from home’ throughout their educational journey.”
As the world continues to face new challenges and adapt to new paradigms, OIA and CU Denver | CU Anschutz continue to innovate new strategies that empower international students to fulfill their educational and professional goals. Fueled by dynamic visions for the future, CU Denver and CU Anschutz are providing transformative opportunities for international students worldwide.
