Summer Events Go Remote, Fall Semester Planning

Dear Members of the CU Denver Community,

I continue to be grateful to you—our staff, faculty, and students—for all you’re doing to keep CU Denver and our community strong during this unprecedented time.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been continuously evaluating this dynamic situation and working to protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of our community. As we look to the coming months, we have made the following decisions about in-person events for everyone’s continued safety and health.

Summer Semester
All summer classes have been transitioned from in-person to online or remote learning delivery, with an expanded array of courses available. Registration for courses remains open until June 16, 2020. Find more information on the summer session website.

Summer Events
Information from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control indicates that there is likely to be some form of social distancing required well into the summer. Consequently, we are suspending all in-person university-sponsored events and official functions through July 31, 2020, including on- and off-campus activities and gatherings. Questions about CU Denver events may be directed to events@ucdenver.edu. 

Fall Semester
Given the uncertainty about when restrictions will be lifted, it is not yet clear when we will be able to welcome all of you back to campus. In concert with public health officials, we are planning for different scenarios regarding the fall 2020 semester: hoping for the best but preparing for a range of possibilities. The foundational principles guiding our planning are that the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff come first, and that we continue to provide a high-quality education for our students. Our ongoing COVID-19 taskforce is pivoting to guide the planning and decision-making for the eventual restart of campus operations, including classroom instruction, research, and housing. We will keep you informed when additional information is available.

A Final Word on Loss
As we work through these logistical decisions, I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the personal toll this pandemic may be taking on you and your families. I’ve been deeply saddened in recent days to hear of the significant losses being experienced by a number of our students and colleagues. On behalf of the entire university community, I offer our profound sympathy and support. We are holding you close in our thoughts.
