Chris Puckett

Special Assistant to the Chancellor for COVID-19, and Managing University Counsel



Chris Puckett Chris Puckett serves as the Managing University Counsel for CU Denver and is also the Special Assistant to the Chancellor for COVID-19. As Managing University Counsel, he supervises the CU Denver legal office that provides advice to the chancellor and other constituents within the university.

Since joining CU Denver in 2009, Chris has supported many activities undertaken by both the Provost’s and Chancellor’s Offices. In addition to legal duties, Chris has assisted and led many campus initiatives, addressing such issues as military and veterans’ benefits, financial aid, governmental affairs, audits, and the university’s pandemic response.

Prior to joining CU Denver, Chris was an attorney in the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. In this role, he advised all executive branch state agencies on matters involving civil rights, employment, and open records. Additionally, Chris advised the Colorado Civil Rights Commission and filed one of the first predatory financing cases against national banks.

Chris is a native of Kansas and received a BA with honors in English from University of Denver. After graduating college, he worked in commercial real estate and at a church. After his wife gave him a copy of David Cole’s No Equal Justice, Chris pursued law school and graduated from Georgetown Law, where he served on the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law & Policy.
