Colorado Chest Tube

This project aims to address challenges from the opioid epidemic by reducing perioperative pain and opioid use in cardiothoracic surgery patients, overcoming the limitations of current pain management strategies. The proposed solution focuses on the development of an innovative therapeutic agent delivery system using nanoparticles encapsulating lidocaine within a hydrogel, known as the Colorado Chest Tube. This dual-purpose chest tube provides necessary drainage while delivering targeted non-opioid analgesia over several days. Collaborators: Jessica Rove, MD and Daewon Park, PhD
