Outside Interactive CEO Inspires New Graduates
Robin Thurston MS '99 earned his graduate degree while working full-time, an investment he thought would help build his career. Now, as the CEO and founder of Outside Interactive, a multimedia platform dedicated to getting people outdoors, Thurston is changing the way we think about outdoor recreation and activity.
CU Denver has partnered with Outside Interactive to create The Outside Lab on our campus, where faculty, students, Outside editors, and industry partners can test outdoor gear to improve the comfort, safety, and accessibility of new products.
Welcoming 1,300 New Alumni
Last month more than 1,300 CU Denver students completed their degrees. Graduates represented 15 states and 20 countries, and ranged in age from 20 to 72. 61% of graduates receiving a bachelor’s degree transferred to CU Denver after starting college at another institution and 40% of the graduates were the first in their family to earn a college degree.
A large mural by Mexican artist Spaik now adorns the side of the AHEC PE/Events Center on campus. Commemorating the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the U.S., the mural evokes the rich history of Mexican American families who lived, worked, ran businesses, and worshipped on the land that became the Auraria Campus.
Grammys Watch
The Grammy Awards will take place on February 4, and two faculty members from the College of Arts & Media are among the nominees. Professor Greg Garrison is bassist with the band Leftover Salmon whose album “Mighty Poplar” was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album. Meanwhile, “Rounds,” the first track on an album called STILLPOINT produced by Associate Dean Mark Rabideau, was nominated for Best Contemporary Classical Composition.
