Safe Return Weekly Update

July 23, 2020 @  12:12 p.m.

Our safe return to campus continues this week with newly created student work-study and faculty coordinator positions, the announcement of a second student and parent webinar, an update on the return of research and creative activities, and more.

Students Needed for Work-Study Positions
To enhance the quality of and promote engagement in remote and hybrid courses, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is developing a Student Course Assistant Program.

Seventy-five undergraduate students will be trained to handle a variety of logistical tasks in Zoom. These include monitoring chat, organizing break-out rooms, taking attendance, managing screen sharing, facilitating polling, and troubleshooting student technical problems.

Student Course Assistants will be hired for 6 – 12 hours per week at $13 per hour. To make the remote course experience a more engaging and smoother experience for both faculty and students, Student Course Assistants will be required to attend the remote courses to which they’re assigned. Academic knowledge of the course or discipline is not necessary.

Students can apply now: https://ucdenver.joinhandshake.com/jobs/3875756.

Faculty Coordinators Needed for Student Course Assistants
The CETL seeks Faculty Coordinators to supervise the Student Course Assistants. This position will start at the end of July and require between 7 – 10 hours per week.  Compensation will be a stipend of $3,500 per semester. Faculty Coordinators must be able to serve in the role for both the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. Application deadline is July 28.

Lynx Launch: Start Fall 2020 Right
An interactive webinar designed to give students the information they need to begin the fall 2020 semester will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 – 6 p.m. A panel of students, staff, and faculty will answer questions submitted in advance or during the webinar. Read about the July 14 student and parent webinar here.

Campus Safety Protocol Signage
Auraria campus partners will all be using the same safety protocol signage across campus and in CU Denver buildings on the east side of Speer. All signage is formatted for 8.5 inches by 11 inches for easier printing and is easily accessible on Brandfolder, the university’s digital asset management system. To view and download the files, use this link and enter your university sign-in credentials.

Gradual Return of Research and Creative Activities (RCA)
As of July 21, 40 labs and studios have been approved to restart research and creative activities.  As many as 75 faculty, post-docs, professional and student researchers are coming back to campus to continue their important work.  Review of additional applications is underway.

Staff Unit Returns
So far, 37 units have submitted safe return plans for the fall that detail whether and how they  will be returning to on-campus work and the safety precautions that will be taken. The plans are currently being reviewed by the Safe Return Safety Team.

Health Screening Check-Ins
A total of 477 on-site check-ins took place at the North Classroom and Lynx Crossing Residence Hall health screening stations the week of July 13.
