March 9, 2022
Dear CU Denver Students, Faculty, and Staff,
It’s hard to believe that March is already here and our Spring 2022 Commencement is just around the corner.
Commencement is a time for us to celebrate all that our students have achieved, and to recognize what this next great step means for their lives, for our communities, and for the world they will impact. That’s why I’m so excited to announce what this year’s in-person event will look like.
First, we’re thrilled to be back to celebrating in person on the Tivoli Quad. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.
And we have another big announcement. Our Spring 2022 Commencement speaker is CU Denver alum and nationally acclaimed artist, Thomas Evans, a.k.a. Detour! I can’t wait to welcome Detour back to campus. Not too long ago at his own graduation, I’m sure he was thinking a lot about what his future had in store. Now, with an impressive list of solo shows across the country and public murals that can be found across Denver, Detour is creating widely acclaimed work “where art and innovation meet”—a rare talent that will soon make its way to our Denver campus (more details to come). It’s an honor that he is willing to come back and share his story with our Class of 2022.
To give you a sense of what Commencement weekend will look like:
This is a tremendous milestone—for our graduates and our university. After a couple of challenging years, I know we are all so excited to come together to celebrate our Class of 2022 alongside their families, loved ones, and friends. Stay tuned for more information in the weeks ahead, and congratulations in advance to our graduates on this tremendous accomplishment.
Sincerely,
Michelle Marks
